Add to album

This ceramic pot with a lid was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used sometime between 80 and 100 AD, perhaps for storage.

Lidded pot of fine pale buff ware from Newstead

Roman forts in Scotland were supplied with everyday pottery from kilns situated all over Britain. Some pottery was made locally, near the fort, but much was imported.
