'Appearing before an Officer', by F.C.B. Cadell

Sketch entitled 'Appearing before an Officer' in black ink and watercolour, by Francis C.B. Cadell, signed and dated 1915, World War I.

This sketch was one of a series of sketches for a book entitled 'Jack and Tommy' produced during the First World War.

Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell (1883 - 1937) was born in Edinburgh and studied art at Paris and Munich. Cadell served in World War I in the 9th Royal Scots as a private, and then as an officer in the 8th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was one of the group of painters known as the Scottish Colourists.
