Men of the Scots Fusilier Guards, after the Crimean War

Photograph from Queen Victoria's photo album of wounded soldiers of the Scots Fusilier Guards. The soldiers were convalescing in England following wounds sustained during service in the Crimean War (1854-56).

The central figure displays the distinctive arm badges of his rank of Colour-Sergeant.

Queen Victoria was an enthusiastic patron of the art of photography, the popularity and success of which in Britain owed a great deal to royal encouragement.
