The band of the 74th Regiment of Foot in white doublets and feathered bonnets

Photograph of the band of the 74th Regiment of Foot, c. 1860.

The band can be seen wearing white doublets; the bandsmen at the front are very young boys. This regiment was raised in 1787 for Government service.

The first colonel was Major General Sir Archibald Campbell of Inverneil. In 1809 the regiment ceased to wear tartan, but a campaign spearheaded by Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Eyre Crabbe in 1845 had tartan reinstated.
