Pipers of the 2nd Battalion, Cameronians, at Aldershot

Photograph of pipers of the 2nd Battalion The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) at Aldershot, 1907. Aldershot was the Headquarters for line regiments of the British Army. The sign in the background reads 'Private Road. Officers Only.'

The Scottish Rifles wore trews rather than the kilt; however the pipers in this picture, as with all pipers in the British Army, wore the kilt.

The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) can trace their origins back to 1689, being an amalgamation in 1881 of the 26th Cameronian Regiment and the 90th Perthshire Light Infantry.
