Coloured engraving of the Battle of Waterloo, 1815

'French Cuirassiers in the Battle of Waterloo Charged and Defeated by the Highlanders and Scotch Greys', published by E. Orme, 4 June 1816.

The main focus of the print is a Scots soldier using his bayonet to attack a mounted Frenchman, while to the extreme right a Highland soldier attempts to help a fallen comrade.

There were 6,070 officers and men of Scottish regiments present at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, of a total of 67,655 commanded by the Duke of Wellington. Napoleon led almost 72,000 men. The British lost 15,000 killed and wounded, and the French 25,000.
