Coloured print of the 'Anecdote of the bravery of the Scots piper at the Battle of Vimeiro'. Published by Orme on 1 January 1816, showing Piper George Clark of the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot.

Despite being injured in the legs, Piper Clark continues to play his bagpipes and encourage his comrades.

The Battle of Vimeiro (modern spelling) on 21 August 1808 was part of the Peninsular War. Fought by the victorious British and Portuguese against the French, the battle signalled the expulsion of French troops from Portugal.
