Collecting box for the Scottish Women's Hospitals, World War I

The Scottish Women's Hospitals of the First World War were the inspiration of Dr Elsie Inglis and were staffed by women doctors and nurses. They were set up to further the war effort by aiding the sick and injured, and also to show what women could achieve in the field of medicine.

The box carries patriotic injunctions on its sides, 'Help gallant little Serbia', and 'Help the Scottish Women's Hospitals'.
