Carbon photograph of John Cameron, a former soldier of the 79th Regiment of Foot (Cameron Highlanders), 1890.

John Cameron was born on the 24 July 1796 in Aberdeen to a Lochaber family. This photograph was taken in 1890 when John Cameron was 94. Cameron served at Waterloo and you can see his Waterloo medal on his chest.

The Battle of Waterloo took place on 18 June 1815 between the victorious British, Dutch, Belgians and Nassauers under the Duke of Wellington against the French under Napoleon. The result of the battle was to bring peace to Europe.
