Linen cushion cover

This linen cushion cover was embroidered by the artist Jessie Newbery in 1900.

This cushion cover is of brown linen with applied green and pale green linen panels. It is embroidered with green and greenish blue silk threads in satin stitch.

Jessie Newbery, 1864-1948, worked with glass, metals and mosaic, but she is best remembered for her outstanding needlework. As a result of her influence a Department of Embroidery was established at the Glasgow School of Art.
