This oak rug chest was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, an architect and designer, for display at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition of 1899. The chest was for sale at £18.

The oak chest has a panel of inlaid woods showing a hunting scene, which was made by Whytock and Reid.

Sir Robert Lorimer, 1864-1929, was one of the foremost designers and architects of his day. He made this piece to show at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition of 1899. This was a show to encourage good quality workmanship and design.
