This is a stained oak armchair designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, architect and designer, for the Argyle Street Tea Rooms in Glasgow, 1897. This type of chair was used in the male domain of the Smoking and Billiards Room.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh, 1868-1928, was an innovative architect and designer. He designed the interiors of four Glasgow tea rooms for Catherine Cranston, a shrewd businesswoman and inspired patron.
