Engraving, The Inauguration of Robert Burns

This engraving by Charles Ewart featuring Robert Burns, the poet, is titled 'The Inauguration of Robert Burns as Poet Laureate of the Lodge Canongate Kilwinning, Edinburgh 1st March 1787'. It is an interpretation of an earlier painting by Stewart Watson.

This engraving was published by J.W. Watt, Art Publisher, 17 London Street, Edinburgh.

Robert Burns, 1759-96, was a poet and song writer who has had a lasting impact around the world. Burns was a Freemason, and when he attended Lodge Canongate Kilwinning he was toasted as 'Caledonia's Bard' - much to his surprise!
