These beads were found in a Viking grave mound at Kildonan on Eigg in the Inner Hebrides. The man was buried with weapons and ornaments from Scandinavia and the British Isles between 900 and 950.

Two of the beads are of amber and the third is of an unidentified stone. The one on the right is quite large. All are slightly damaged.

Beads were worn by both Viking men and women. In some men's graves, large beads occur either alone or in small numbers. In women's graves, they were often strung into long necklaces, sometimes hung between oval brooches.
