made in London
This bronze bushel imperial measure, pictured here on top of its wooden case, was made in London and is part of the official set used from 1826 by the burgh of Dunbar in East Lothian. A bushel is 36.4 litres.
The back of the measure is engraved with the maker's name, 'I & R WARNER, LONDON'.
To ensure fair trade, burghs each kept a set of standard weights and measures against which those in commercial use could be checked.
