This is the reverse of a billon plack minted at Edinburgh 1557, during the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots. The coin was worth four pence Scots.

The reverse has a arcuate cross with a small cross in the centre and a crown in each angle. The Latin inscription translates as: 'I serve and am worn by use'.

Mary's coinage is divisible into five phases, reflecting her early life, two marriages and two widowhoods. During her reign numerous issues appeared in gold, silver and base metal, many of them comprising denominations never previously struck.
