This woman's dress of white wool and acrylic jersey was made in Paris around 1968-9 by André Courrèges. It was part of a range called 'Hyperbole' and is typical of the shape in the mid to late 1960s.

The fabric bonded by nylon jersey is stiff enough for this mini dress to keep its shape without extra stiffening.

Designers such as André Courrèges, Pierre Cardin and Emile Ungaro showed a series of smooth streamlined outfits in their collections in the mid-1960s. Courrege's first fashion show was widely acclaimed. His designs were copied without licence so he withdrew from costume and designed only for ready-to-wear ranges. Because of his training in haute couture, these clothes have great attention to detail and cut.
