decorated in Edinburgh
The blank of this earthenware vase was made by Maling and Sons, potters in Newcastle-on-Tyne, and decorated by Arthur H. Amour at the Bough Pottery Studio in Edinburgh in 1924.
The vase has a band of fruit, painted in a variety of underglaze colours. 'A.H.A.', 'BOUGH', and '1924' have been painted on the vase, while 'SHAPE No. 6' has been impressed.
The Bough Pottery Studio was founded in Edinburgh by Elizabeth Amour, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, in 1913. She was joined by four other members of her family in the early 1920s. The Studio continued in operation until 1942, decorating biscuit-ware blanks bought in from various factories in Scotland and England.
