from New Galloway, Kirkcudbrightshire
A 'save-all' is a device to minimise the waste of candle wax. This bronze save-all for a candle comes from New Galloway in Kirkcudbrightshire. It possibly dates from the 16th or 17th century.
The 'save-all' consists of a shallow bowl on a short stem with concentric circles engraved inside and three spikes at the centre. A small, slightly concave handle projects at one side.
