This bronze lamp was found at the site of the Roman fort at Camelon in Stirlingshire. It was filled with oil on which a wick floated. The lamp was used sometime between 80 and 180 AD.

The lamp is in poor condition, with holes in the body and nozzle.

The Romans used oil lamps, candles and lanterns to provide lighting inside. Most surviving oil lamps are pottery, although metal examples are also known. Most were filled from the top with oil, and lit by a wick inserted into the nozzle.
