From near Craigiehall, Perthshire and Fyrish, Evanton, Ross-shire
Add to albumThese two objects are archery equipment. The cannel coal belt ring from near Craigiehall in Perthshire was probably from a quiver belt, while the stone wristguard from Fyrish at Evanton in Ross-shire protected the archer's wrists from the bowstring.
The belt ring is circular, with complex holes in one side for attaching it to a belt. The other end of the belt would have passed through it. The wristguard would have been attached to a leather strap, fixing it to the wrist.
Around 2500 BC, a new archery kit was adopted in Scotland from continental Europe, along with prestige items such as the domestic horse and decorated drinking pots. A new type of bow, short and curving, was used as well as new accessories such as these.
