This cast bronze cannon is from Tolquhon Castle near Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire. It dates from 1588. It is one of four similar cannons probably cast by a local founder for use in the newly-built castle.

The cannon bears the arms and initials of William Forbes of Tolquhon.

Tolquhon Castle was started by William Forbes in 1584 and finished five years later. One of very few castles in Grampian to be built round a courtyard, it remained habitable until the end of the 19th century. It is now preserved as an historic monument.
