Chess table

This chess table decorated in tartan would have been made for a relatively wealthy household. It illustrates well the mid-Victorian love of things Scottish applied to a prosaic object.

Games table with an octagonal top on a vase-shaped octagonal column on a scrolled trefoil base on three balled feet, and the whole covered in varnished tartan paper, c. 1850
