Communion cups
This pair of silver communion cups from the Tolbooth Kirk in Edinburgh were made by Patrick Borthwick, a goldsmith of Edinburgh in 1642.
Each cup has a deep bowl and a hexagonal stem on a cushion foot. Engraved inside the bowl is the inscription: 'For the Church of the Northwest Parich of Edinburgh, 1642'. The cups are partially gilded.
The Northwest Parish was the original name of the Tolbooth.
