Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate illustrates fancy dress costumes for two women and a young girl. It is dated, 1878 and signed, 'Bonnard' and 'Anaïs Toudouze'. The young girl may be dressed as a bee or a wasp. Her dress has a yellow and black striped bodice and she has wings attached to her back. Juvenile fancy balls were much in fashion at this time and some of the best dresses were suggested by illustrated books and fairy tales. Other costumes for girls included, Bo-peep, Cinderella, Ladybird, Red Riding-Hood, Tambourine Girl and Titania. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
