This gold ring was found at Whithorn Priory Church in Wigtownshire. It dates from the 13th century.
The ring is set with an amethyst surrounded by eight small sapphires.
Whithorn has one of the longest associations with Christianity of any place in Scotland through its link with St. Ninian, one of Scotland's early saints. He was a British bishop based at Whithorn in Wigtownshire in the second half of the 5th century.
