This drawing of a naval action off St Domingo in the West Indies in 1806 was made by George Webster, a seaman in the Royal Navy. Webster immediately sent it home to his family to be preserved as a souvenir. His ship, HMS Superb, is shown in the centre, exchanging fire with French ships to either side.

In a letter to his parents Webster wrote, 'I have sent the reperesentashon of the Action...be so kind as to put it in a glass and fram til I com hom agan...I wish to have it kept in rememberince'.
