Teapot or kettleThis glazed earthenware teapot or kettle was made at Belfield's Pottery at Prestonpans in East Lothian. The design was registered in 1872. The teapot is relief moulded with bamboo shoots and leaves. Belfield's Pottery was established by Charles Belfield in the mid-1830s. By the mid-19th century the pottery was employing between 20 and 40 people. The business remained a family concern and continued until the mid-20th century. Belfield's is best known for high quality earthenware, particularly its Rockingham teapots and coffee pots, maiolica ware and everyday kitchen ware.
