From Carpow, Perthshire
This bronze brooch, also known as a fibula, was found at the site of the Roman fort at Carpow in Perthshire. It was imported from the Rhineland.
The brooch is of a type known as divided bow brooch. The pin in missing, and the foot of the brooch is cracked.
The Roman army obtained supplies from three zones: locally (either by the army or natives), within the Roman province of Britannia, or further afield in the Roman empire. The fort at Carpow was used for a very short time, allowing close dating of finds.
