Early dirks were lethal stabbing weapons. This bronze example was found at Pitcaithly in Perthshire. It dates from between 1600 and 1500 BC.

The well-preserved dirk has a midrib and two side ridges. It is decorated on its base. The dome-shaped rivets are preserved in the two rivet holes.

Warriors had a major social role in their society and displayed their status through fancy weapons.
