Medal (reverse), commemorating victory of Oliver Cromwell's troops over Scottish army at Battle of Dunbar, 1650

This is the reverse of a silver medal commemorating the victory of Oliver Cromwell's troops over the Scottish army at the Battle of Dunbar in September 1650. Medals such as this were given to soldiers in Cromwell's army who distinguished themselves in battle.

The reverse of the medal shows the members of Parliament assembled in the House of Commons, with the Speaker presiding over the sitting.

Oliver Cromwell invaded Scotland in July 1650, after the Scots had ignored his appeal for support and proclaimed Charles II King. In September of that year Cromwell was faced with a Covenanting army of over 20,000 Scots. But Cromwell's more experienced army defeated the Scots, leaving over 3,000 Scots killed and nearly 10,000 captured.
