RecordChisel of bronze< 1 of 1 > Back From Adabrock, Lewis, Outer Hebrides
Chisel of bronzeThis bronze chisel was found at Adabrock on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides in a hoard of tools, weapons, vessel fragments and beads. It was either imported from Ireland or copied from examples originally made there between 950 and 750 BC. The chisel has a socket, which would have had a wooden handle fitted into it. Socketed chisels were specialised woodworking tools, and may have been the property of a specialist carpenter. The rest of the Adabrock hoard contains valuable tools, jewellery and other items, almost certainly deposited as a gift to the gods.
