This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dated 1869 the plate illustrates two evening dresses with long mantles. It is signed, 'Anaïs Toudouze'.
The plate concentrates on the mantles - loose, sleeveless cloaks or capes. These examples are trimmed with tassels.
Adèle Anaïs Toudouze was one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Examples of her work could be seen in many of the in the top fashion magazines of the time, including Le Follet and Le Magasin des Desmoiselles.
