Locket (open), associated with Charles IThis silver locket (pictured here open) commemorates Charles I. It dates from around 1650. The inside of the locket contains on one face a badge of Charles I, on the other the letters 'CR' (for 'Carolus Rex') crowned. Many pieces of jewellery commemorate the later Stewart monarchs, particularly after the execution of Charles I in 1649. The pieces were worn by supporters of the Scottish dynasty and handed down through their families into the 18th century. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
