Plate, commemorating 1851 Great ExhibitionThis earthenware plate commemorates the Great Exhibition of 1851 at the Crystal Palace in London. It was made by Glasgow potters J. and M.P. Bell whose products were displayed at the exhibition. The circular plate has a slightly scalloped edge and a transfer-printed view of the Crystal Palace in the centre. John and Matthew Perston Bell's company became one of the biggest and best-known potteries in Scotland. In production by 1842, the Glasgow Pottery, or 'Bells' as it was more commonly known, made a wide range of wares. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
