This goose's larynx, curved into a circle and containing small stones or pellets of lead shot, was used as a charm. It is from Balmaghie in Kirkcudbrightshire. It was given to the Museum in 1889.

The charm was used to protect against whooping cough by the last owner when she was a girl, her mother hanging it around her neck.
