Trace hook

A trace hook is attached to a cart or vehicle to guide the reins. This iron example was found at Traprain Law in East Lothian. It was used sometime in the first three centuries AD.

Entire carts or wagons from this period rarely survive. Often all that is left are metal fittings and bindings.
