Spearhead
Add to album

This large bronze spearhead from an unknown location dates from between 1150 and 750 BC. It was a prestige item, designed to proclaim social status rather than to be used as a practical weapon.

This spearhead is significantly larger than most other contemporary spearheads. It is so massive that it would have been unwieldy, which suggests it may have only been for show.

Prestige and status were displayed through ostentatious weapons, tools and jewellery during the 2nd and 1st millennia BC. This spearhead was obviously larger than ordinary ones, and would have served to underline the status of its warrior owner.
