Hip flask and bottle, by Susan K. Senior

This porcelain hip flask and cube-shaped bottle were made by the Scottish artist Susan K. Senior in 1981.

The hip flask with a cork stopper has a small spout and lugs with a white cord with blue bead attached. The flat, dished front is decorated with flowers. The bottle has a domed top with a pierced hole and a lug with a cord stopper. The side is decorated with a cobalt blue butterfly.

During the 1980s the Scottish Development Agency purchased a number of hand-crafted items for its Scottish Crafts Collection. The aim of the collection was to inform the public of craft production in Scotland through touring exhibitions and education programmes. When the Scottish Craft Council was wound up, the collection was transferred to the National Museums of Scotland.
