Pamphlet giving an account of Robert Watt's trial
Add to album

This pamphlet gives an account of the trial of Robert Watt who was executed for high treason in 1794. Watt was the ringleader of the Pike Plot, a conspiracy which aimed at a revolutionary coup in Edinburgh.

The pamphlet was printed for Bell and Bradfute of Parliament Close in Edinburgh.

The American and French revolutions encouraged the spread of new political ideas throughout Britain. In the later 18th century Scotland's political struggles reflected the unrepresentative system of government.
