StrainerThis bronze wine strainer was found near Lanark. It was part of a good-quality wine-drinking set, used to strain the dregs from the wine. It dates from between 80 and 140 AD. The strainer is composed of two parts, one fitting inside the other. The straining holes are almost entirely missing. Both pieces have identical handles, splayed approximately half way along and again on the ends. Officers in the Roman army possessed better cooking and serving equipment than the lower ranks.
