Add to album

This model of an Oliver 140X plough was made by Oliver of Charles City in Iowa in the United States of America. The model dates from around 1900. Oliver ploughs were popular due to their economical design which allowed parts to be replaced individually.

The model is inscribed, 'Oliver's Combination Plow'.

Oliver ploughs were used to open up the plains of North America. The company was originally founded by a Roxburghshire shepherd but by the 1870s they were being imported back to Scotland.
