Pistol barrel

This brass pistol barrel was probably made in Edinburgh or the Canongate. It dates from 1621.

The strapwork on the barrel is characteristic Renaissance work.

Renaissance features are found in many aspects of design. The Scottish makers of firearms, swords and daggers were skilled craftsmen who produced striking examples of the Scottish Renaissance style.
