from Trinity College Kirk, Edinburgh
Add to albumThis pair of silver communion cups from Trinity College Kirk in Edinburgh were made in London in 1632. The cups are similar to a group made around this time for several Scottish parishes, such as those made for Greyfriars by Thomas Cleghorne.
The cups have deep bowls and round stems. They are engraved with the maker's initials, 'FH' and the inscription: 'For the North East Parishe' - the original name for Trinity.
Trinity College Kirk stood on the site of Waverley Station. It was founded in 1460 by Mary of Gueldres, in memory of her husband James II, and completed in 1531. The church became Protestant at the Reformation in 1560.
