Fashion plate, from La Mode Illustreé
Add to album

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1893, the plate illustrates two shooting outfits. It is signed, 'L. Margelidon' and 'I. Desgrange'.

The woman on the left wears boots while the other wears gaiters - cloth or leather coverings for the foot and lower leg. Both women are carrying guns.

Isabelle Desgrange (née Toudouze) was the daughter of Adèle Anaïs Toudouze, one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Isabelle also produced plates for Le Follet, Le Monde Elégant and The Queen.
