This slate disc was found in the rubble in the basement of Cramalt South Tower in Meggetland in Selkirkshire. It dates from the 16th or 17th century and may have been used as a pot lid.

The Megget valley, or 'Meggetland' as it was commonly called, was an outlying district of the ancient forest of Ettrick, a hunting preserve created by David I during the 12th century. Cramalt was an important strategic site in the valley and the tower is first mentioned in 1530.
