RecordStud< 1 of 1 > Back from Newstead, Roxburghshire
StudThis enamelled bronze stud was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It could have been used on either a harness or a belt. It dates from between 80 and 180 AD. This picture shows the back of the stud. The raised ridge for attaching the circular stud is visible. The object is damaged around the edges. Leather on harnesses and belts rarely survives, but the metal fittings and ornaments are often preserved. Some, like this one, were richly decorated.
