This steel and silver pistol was made by Daniel Walker of Dumbarton around 1750.

The pistol has a scroll butt and is inscribed with the maker's name 'D. Walker'. It has a Doune lock mechanism which uses a flint to spark the gunpowder.

A demand from Highlanders for pistols was met in the 17th and early 18th centuries by the Stirlingshire town of Doune. After 1745, the market for Doune pistols declined and Doune-trained gunsmiths dispersed to other towns, including Stirling.
