Coin (reverse), 30 shilling piece, from reign of Charles I

This is the reverse of a silver 30 shilling piece minted at Edinburgh in 1637-8, during the reign of Charles I.

The reverse has a crowned shield of arms. The Latin inscription translates as: 'What God hath joined together, let no man put asunder'. The words are from the Gospel of St Matthew. There is a small sideways 'B' after the inscription.

The 'B' on the coin is the initial of Nicolas Briot, Master of the Mint at this time.
