From Albany Street, Edinburgh
This tin-glazed earthenware pot was used for herbs, ointments or other medicines. It dates from the 18th century. It was found in the backgreen of 15 Albany Street in Edinburgh.
The pot has a flared rim and foot.
In the 18th century most doctors prepared the drugs they prescribed. Some of their herbs could be collected in the countryside. Others were bought from apothecaries who themselves purchased drugs from wholesalers in London and Amsterdam.
